The Hani nationality is one of Chinese minority nationalities with a population of 1.6 million in 2010, mainly inhabit in southern Yunnan, like Xishuangbanna, Yuxi, Puer and so on. Most of the Hanis inhabited in mountain areas between 800 and 2500 meters above sea level, mainly engaged in agriculture, especially flourishing in terrace rice-planting culture.
The Hani nationality have their own language, which belongs to Yi, under the Tibeto-Burman branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Originally, the Hani nationality had no writing system. Modern Hani people use Latin alphabet-based phonetic characters which was newly created.

The Hani terraced-field
The Hani terraced-field is a magnificent art on land, which has been created by Hani people of Ailao mountain region during the long history. The Hani villages are situated on the mountainside. The terraced-fields are found everywhere from Hani villages to the valley. It is the integration of material wealth and cultural wealth with terraced field as the main carrier and with terraced-field agriculture as its core.
